NY: Abrams, 1978. 1st. Folio (13” or taller), 311pp, 417 illustrations, including 186 color plates, some tipped-in , cloth. NF/NF (PON on FFEP, only very slight wear). A very attractive copy. A first printing of an absolutely dynamite book profiling ten artists from the Golden Age of illustration: Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth, Frederic Remington, Maxfield Parrish, J.C. Leyendecker, Norman Rockwell, Charles Dana Gibson, Howard Chandler Christy, James Montgomery Flagg, and John Held, Jr. Even 25 years later, this is about the best introduction to the Golden Age illustrators there is: excellent reproduction, extensive color, images never otherwise reproduced, well-written & well-researched text. The biographies relate the illustrators’ careers to each other and to the evolution of the illustration business.

Stanislav Szukalski. STANISLAV SZUKALSKI: TROUGHFUL OF PEARLS. [SN18685] $1500

Sylmar, CA: Glenn Bray, 1980. 1st. Square 4to (11-13”), 176pp, color and b&w, cloth. Fine/VG+ (slight DJ edgewear with a few small tears). #21 of 100 copies hardbound and signed & dated by the artist. Troughful Of Pearls was the first book on the art of Szukalski since 1929. The bok is divided into two sections of 88 pages each. "Troughful Of Pearls" reproduces sculptures, projects, drawings and portraits from 1912 to 1980. "Behold!!! The Protong" is a sampling from Szukalski's 39 volume work on Zermatism. Included is a 33 1/3 rpm record with talk by the artist and a card of Protong volabulary. Also laid in is an ad sheet reproducing a Copernicus Print by Szukalski, and a two-sided sheet describing "Troughful Of Pearls." The book is profusely illustrated with hundreds of photographs of Szukalski's works, with commentary on the various pieces, and noting which pieces of his art works were stolen by the Communist Government of Poland. Exceedingly scarce in the first edition and rare in this Signed edition of only 100! Only the second half of this book was reprinted in Behold the Protong.

Portfolio of 14 prints, including a numbered certificate. Prints are 8" x 10" high quality lithographic printing on cardstock with an embossed border. Prints come in a Japanese silk covered box. This portfolio features paintings, details and studies from the Mark Ryden Bunnies and Bees show. Edition of 10,000.

France: Granit Associes, 2006. 1st. Folio (13” or taller), b&w, alligator skin. VF. One of 950 numbered copies SIGNED by the artist. A deluxe oversize hardcover volume collecting all six albums (1989-2004). The artwork is reproduced in its b&w form without coloring. A massive tome bound in alligator skin.

Hampton Falls, NH: Donald M. Grant, 2004. 1st. 4to (11-13"), 265pp, color and b&w, snakeskin. VF/VF clamshell traycase. One of 350 numbered copies SIGNED by Bradbury & Weist. This deluxe edition has an additional 32 pages of material not included in the Harper Collins trade edition. This Grant edition contains THE GHOSTS OF FOREVER, a previously unpublished film script by Ray Bradbury illustrated with 83 story boards by Joseph A. Mugnani as well as 16 illustrations done by Ray Bradbury in 1949 to accompany the original manuscript of his children's book SWITCH ON THE NIGHT which was not published until 1955. Issued in a velour lined, snakeskin clamshell traycase.
