Pre-production paintings and drawings, character designs, and miscellaneous designs. Beautiful pen & ink drawings with subtle coloring. Beautiful lyrical artwork, unlike any other Japanese artist, very European in style. It also contains a folded full-size poster of the cover illustration. Text in Japanese.

Beautiful artwork--loose, lively, and full of charm. From the publisher: "Do burglary, love and politics work well together? This is the (still prevalent) question that this album, in a great tradition of the serial stories, tries to answer. The story is set in a country quite similar to France, the Navarin, during a period similar to the early 20th century. There is a democratic government, with a president – Honorin Rouflaquet – and a backward-looking cabinet. In the salons, the aristocrats are rather modernist. The Great Cause is an ultra conservative secret political movement that wants to impose a dictatorship and the Rebellious are against all forms of power. Amidst all this, there is Ariane Liftier, a young lady of good upbringing (in reality, her parents were smugglers) who is fascinated by the exploits of the " mystery man ", the thief of the modernist baronesses, whose exploits the journalist André Valentin (who is in fact a woman) narrates every day. Ariane is so fascinated that she’ll end up becoming " the thief of Old Man armchair ", in an attempt to seduce this " mystery man ". A fantasy-romantic story, completely crazy, with some remarks " off " that make a very good pastiche of the great masters of the serial stories. Drawing that’s quick, elegant and full of movement." A collection of two- to four-page stories about celebrities and Paris Strass, a celebrity press reporter/photographer. Lots of nudity, sex, scandal, depicted in the most good natured way (a la Little Annie Fanny). I love Yoann's loose lively art style and here we can see his female figures. Text in French.
Yoann. Vehlmann, Fabien. LES GEANTS PETRIFIES. [SN22722X] $36 Paris: Dupuis, 2006. 1st. 4to (11-13”), 64pp, color, pictorial boards. VF. "Une Aventure de Spirou et Fantasio." A special one-shot album featuring two classic characters in a grand adventure. A Caribbean setting, a sunken treasure hunt, submersibles and diving gear, how cool is that? Reminiscent of an Uncle Scrooge or Asterix adventure where essentially comic characters are involved in a "straight" storyline. Fred Blanchard designed the vehicles (his specialty). Yoann's style is tighter and more controlled here: excellent stuff. Text in French.
Katsu Yoshida. HIGH COUP. [SN19439] $20 Tokyo: Kodansha, 1985. 1st. Small 4to (9-11”), 323pp, color, wraps. Fine/NF . At the time of this collection, Yoshida was one of Japan's top illustrators. Color illustrations mostly of musicians, performers and celebrities for posters, magazine and album covers, editorial illustrations, etc. Very 1980s, Interview Magazine, pop-style illustrations.
Chic Young (with Alex Raymond). BLONDIE VOL. 1 1931-1932. [SN17102] $60 Paris: Futuropolis, 1982. 1st. Oblong 4to (11-13” wide), 128pp, b&w, boards. Fine/NF . One of the few collections of the pre-marriage period of this classic strip. This volume features Blondie's romantic adventures with a succession of suitors (including Dagwood). Alex Raymond assisted Young during this period. Reproduced in a nice large format, three strips per page. French text.
